HEATING ELEMENT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Remove old heater in normal fashion.
2. Inspect and clean outside of chamber.
3. Install new heaters, making sure that contact between heater and chamber is evenly distributed.
CAUTION: To assure no burnout due to hot spots, be certain:
a) chamber surface is dry and smooth; and,
b) contact of heater to chamber is completely even and uniform.
4. Replace back up plate.
5. Sequentially tighten tie down bands. The same amount of torque should be applied to all three bands (40 in. lbs.).
6. Perform final inspection. Verify that the curvature of the heaters matches the chamber and that no gaps exist.
NOTE:
Heater may show discoloration due to post production burn in and may smoke slightly for up to two minutes when first installed.
7. After testing the unit, re-tighten the tie down bands.
(Note: Excessive tightening of nuts may cause heater to fail)
Tech Tip: Be sure your original MDT Ritter Castle GLS8 Dual Heating Element is defective before replacing it, by performing the following test
Testing The MDT Ritter Castle GLS8 Dual Heating Element
This test consists of measuring the amount of resistance in the element. To do this, first, turn the autoclave off and unplug it from the wall
WARNING: CURRENT MUST NOT BE PRESENT WHEN MEASURING RESISTANCE.
Set your volt/ohm meter on 200 ohms (200 NOT 200k). The ohms range is located within the Omega (Ω )(look for this symbol) section of your meter. It is also the area with "k" ranges (ie: 2000k,. 200k, 20K and then 2000, 200).
Place a probe from the volt/ohm meter on each fitting where the wire connects to each element (it really doesn't matter which color probe goes where).
Note: The MDT Ritter Castle 1000R Dual Heating Element assembly consists of 2 different heating elements assembled together. Be sure to check them both & then compare them to the ranges in the table below
For the heating elements to be good, they must fall within the resistance range in this table. If your readings for either element are outside of this range, then it is defective and the entire assembly needs to be replaced. |
